Now that you know what an electric humidor is, let’s take a closer look at the different types of electric humidors you can use to store your cigar collection.
Thermoelectric Humidors
Thermoelectric humidors use a thermoelectric cooling system to control the temperature and humidity inside the humidor. Cigar enthusiasts often prefer this type of humidor because it offers more precise temperature and humidity control over standard humidors, which rely on more passive humidity control methods.
These thermoelectric humidors usually come with built-in temperature and humidity controls, which allow users to be very specific with their temperature and humidity requirements. This can be particularly advantageous to cigar enthusiasts who want to age their cigars in very specific conditions.
Cooler Humidors
A cooler humidor, also known as coolidor, is a standard electric cooler that has been modified to humidify cigars just like a normal humidor would. This type of electric humidor already has built-in temperature control capabilities but has left the mode of humidity control up to the end consumer. In other words, it will be up to you to decide whether you want to control the humidity inside the coolidor with a humidifier, humidity beads, or another humidity control method.
Wineadors
A wineador is a term in the cigar community that’s used to describe a wine cooler that has been adapted into a cigar humidor. There are three main benefits to using a wineador over a traditional humidor, including:
- You can control the temperature inside the wineador
- Wineadors provide you with more storage space for less money
- Wineadors provide better protection from heat and cold
